IMPORTAT NOTICE!

One of the things I love to do with my class on Valentine’s Day is pass out valentines from the children’s parents! I am asking all parents to write their child a “love note” to be passed out at our class valentine celebration.This can be as simple or elaborate as you want. Please return it in an envelope with your child’s name on it and labeled Parent Homework in his/her homework folder by Thursday, February 13th at the latest! If possible, try to keep it a surprise! A Sneak Peak into Third Grade




Social Studies
Students researched the explorers, settlers, and others who continued to come to the region, including their cultural and religious traditions and contributions. Students learned about the community of San Mateo and an American hero, Juan Bautista de Anza. A focus question was: Who were some of the early European explorers in California, and how did their exploration affect our state?


For the next two weeks, students will research the reasons why newcomers and early settlers wanted to make Californai their home. They will also describe the economies established by settlers and their influence on the present day economy. Students will learn about Napa and an American hero, John Sutter. 
Focus Question: Who were some of the early settlers in early California, and how did they make money?

Our science focus is matter. Everything in the world is made up of matter. Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space.

In language arts, students made word maps. A word map shows what the word means, examples of the word, and non-examples of the word. Students also read and acted out the play Melt the Snow!  In addition, students learned how to write a script.
